  • Durango Action Camp to End the School to Jail Track

    Description: Joind Padres & Jovenes Unidos and the Companeros Four Corners Immigrant Resource Center for an Action Camp to end overly-harsh discipline policies that push students of color out of school and into the juvenile justice system! Let's unite to End the school to Jail Track in Colorado!
    Padres & Jovenes Unidos students from Denver and the Roaring Fork Valley will be leading the Action Camp and will be educating and training other Durango yough about the overuse of suspensions, expulsions and police tickets in Colorado schools and how studnets can organize their communities and peers to change school discipline policies.
    The Action Camp will feature workshops on private prisons that make money through the student "push-out" and the jailing of students and we'll also talk about rights for LGBT studnets, immigrants, and students of color. There will be games, activities, movies, and food for all attendees. The event is free for high school and college students and will include breakfast, lunch, dinner and lodging. All are welcome!
