Durango native Paul Jose Quintana died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at his home in Albuquerque. He was 60.
Mr. Quintana was born Sept. 14, 1952, in Durango to Ray and Inez Quintana. As a child he attended Sacred Heart Parish, which his father and grandfather Solamon Quintana helped build. He graduated from Durango High School with the class of 1971.
After high school, he earned a journeyman trade license in Utah. Later, in 1977, he and his family moved to Albuquerque, where he worked as a journeyman sprinkler fitter.
In Albuquerque, he owned Delta Automatic Systems, Inc. and successfully completed hundreds of projects including Cottonwood Mall and the U.S. Courthouse in Albuquerque.
The company, which had completed nearly 400 projects by 1998, was Mr. Quintana’s “baby,” his sister Simmie Quintana said.
After leaving Delta in 1999, he started his most recent company, OP Fire Protection. The company has been successful for the last 12 years, his family said.
A marriage, which ended in divorce, resulted in four daughters for Mr. Quintana, before he met his fiancée Dee Lowther 12 years ago.
“He just loved his daughters,” Simmie Quintana said.
“Paul’s greatest love in life was fishing with his daddy Ray and babying his momma Inez,” his family said.
Mr. Quintana is survived by his parents, Ray and Inez Quintana, of Albuquerque; fiancée and companion of 12 years, Dee Lowther, of Albuquerque; sisters Simmie Quintana and Liz Urenda, both of Albuquerque; daughters Kathleen Quintana of Albuquerque, and Darla Adlong, Lisa Lucas and Melissa Quintana all of Conway, Ark.; and seven grandchildren.
Catholic burial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Sacred Heart Parish. Burial will be held after at Greenmount Cemetery.
