They laughed, they cried and a lucky handful of the 55 entrants won top honors for their “Once Upon a Snowdown” floats in the 34th annual light parade.
The overall winner was Sachs Construction with its “Three Little Swinos” float, an artfully constructed parody of the “Three Little Pigs.”
The Mayor’s Choice went to First National Bank of Durango for its “Jack and the Bean Stalk.”
Best Use of Lights was awarded to The Divas for their black-light umbrella combo dance routine.
The Best Balloon went to Eagle Block, a local building supply company.
The winner of the theme contest was The Colorado Department of Transportation’s “Snow White and the 70 Flashing Arrows.”
The Rochester Hotel’s “Dragons Storming the Castle” took second place in the theme contest. Rochester owner Kirk Komick said it cost a mere $15 to make.
The Girl Scouts took third place for the theme contest for its “Once Upon a Time I was a Girl Scout.”
