The Colorado Department of Transportation is closing Red Mountain Pass intermittently today for avalanche control, agency spokeswoman Nancy Shanks said.
Shanks didn’t know how long delays would be or when all passes would be opened.
Earlier avalanche work on Molas and Coal Bank passes is completed, and Highway 550 over those passes is open. The highway is slick and much caution is advised, Shanks said.
“No one has any business being up there without good snow tires,” Shanks said.
She suggested visiting the department web site, www.cotrip.org, for road conditions. Information on road conditions also is available by telephone by dialing 311.Pro
Problematical road conditions have cancelled the “On the Road Show” of La Plata County commissioners had scheduled today at Bayfield Town Hall. The meeting will be rescheduled later. More information is available by calling 382-6219.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction is forecasting a 20 percent chance of snow today and 50 percent chance Tuesday. Highs are expected to be in the upper 30s and lows in the lower 20s and teens through Friday.
