Seth Parker Evans

Part-time Bayfield resident Seth Parker Evans died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at his home in Black Canyon City, Ariz. He was 80.

Mr. Evans was born Jan. 11, 1932, to Jesse Partington and Sylvia Mae Parker Evans in Rexburg, Idaho.

On March 31, 1955, he married Shirley Hyde in Logan, Utah.

He was a professor of data processing and computer science at Phoenix College in Phoenix for 44 years.

He was on the ground floor when the whole building was the computer, his daughter Denise Copeland said.

Mr. Evans had been a summer resident of Bayfield for 41 years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley H. Evans, of Black Canyon City and Bayfield; son, Kevin H. Evans, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; daughters Denise Copeland of Fruitland, N.M., Patricia Taylor of Henderson, Nev., and Della Barnett of Willard, Utah; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1690 U.S. Highway 160B in Bayfield. Burial will take place at Pine River Cemetery on County Road 501 in Bayfield.
