The Durango High School boys tennis team’s season-opening dual Friday afternoon was the kind where the action doesn’t exactly reflect the result.

“It went well,” assistant tennis coach Karen Wilson said of the Demons’ 6-1 loss to Aspen in Grand Junction. “But the scores don’t reflect that. The matches were really good, and everyone had fun.”

At No. 1 singles, Ryder Searle won 6-0, 6-0 over Gordon Carr in the Demons’ lone victory.

“He had like a flawless game,” said Wilson, who coached the Demons while new head coach Reagyn Germer was absent from the team because of a previous personal commitment.

At No. 2 singles, Aaron Cash lost to Kaylen Gabow 6-4, 6-2 in what Wilson said was the most exciting play of the dual.

“That was a really good match; that was the longest match of the day,” she said. “That was just all around a really good match to watch.”

To wrap up the singles, Wesley Komick lost to Brad Broeking 6-0, 6-0.

Teaming up at No. 1 doubles, Alec Ensign and Drew Downs fell to Henry Godfrey and Dylan Behr 6-2, 6-0, while Blake McDaniel and Jalen Muller lost to Ricky Tscheppat and Devin Cardmone 6-1, 6-1.

Chris Walton and Patrick Meal lost to Victor Robinson and Brandt Goodman 6-2, 6-4 at 3s, and Harrison Quick and Tim Martin wrapped it up with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Alex Regan and Michael Monday at 4s.

Wilson said the doubles teams had to adjust to new partners after a midweek shakeup.

Durango will play Montrose at 10 a.m. Saturday at Grand Junction.
