Ignacio High School girls volleyball couldn’t overcome its own errors Tuesday night at home against Dove Creek.
Twenty service errors paved the way for a 3-1 Dove Creek victory. The Bulldogs won the first set 26-24; Ignacio answered 25-20, then Dove Creek won 28-26 and 25-13.
“Not quite there (Tuesday night), but overall, not too bad,” first-year IHS head coach Thaddeus Cano said.
Michelle Simmons led the team with 12 kills, and Mariah Vigil added eight.
Angela Herrera had four digs for the Bobcats’ defense.
Destinee Lucero led the team with four aces, but Cano said freshman Meil Daiz was the standout player for IHS.
“She did a great job blocking at the net; she served really, really tough,” he said.
The Bobcats will play Telluride at 4 p.m. Friday in a San Juan Basin League match.
“We’ve got to go back and work a little harder on our serving,” Cano said.
