After a difficult 0-8 start against big-school competition, the Durango High School softball team “finally put something in the left-hand column,” the Demons’ head coach, John Bernazzani, said.
Durango swept Eagle Valley in a nonconference doubleheader Friday on the road. DHS won Game 1 16-1, then won the nightcap 15-8.
Alexys Vidunas was the winning pitcher in Game 1; she struck out six.
Augusta Brockus earned the victory in Game 2; she struck out seven.
“Lexy did a good job of pitching in the first game, and Gus did a good job of pitching in the second game,” Bernazzani said.
Vidunas collected five hits in the two-game set, and she had three runs batted in Game 1 to help her own cause.
Mercy Lashway and Mackenzie Sill had three RBIs apiece in Game 1, and Corissa Bosick drove in three runs in Game 2.
DHS (2-8) will play a doubleheader today at Rifle.
