Angela Grogan, a junior at Durango High School and a member of the 4 Corners Fencing-Pentathlon Club, won bronze in the Cadet category, then won a sixth-place medal against much bigger Senior competition last weekend at the New Mexico Open.
Two medals and two rookies – the 4 Corners Fencing-Pentathlon Club was well represented on both ends of the spectrum last weekend at the New Mexico Open.
Angela Grogan, a junior at Durango High School, won a bronze medal in the Cadet (U17) Women’s Épée, then finished sixth atop the podium in the Senior Women’s Épée.
The daughter of Bob and Trish Grogan placed 37th out of 51 senior fencers.
The rookies, Hannah Matheson and Bryce Ward, both competed for the first time: Matheson, who attends Mountain Middle School, placed 13th in the Y14 Mixed Épée; Ward, a freshman at Animas High School, placed 11th in the Y14 Mixed Épée.
