Of course, playing without their starting quarterback didn’t help matters. Jordan Woolverton skipped the semifinal with a hand injury, and the offense never could find its niche.
Montezuma-Cortez led 6-0 at the half, then the Colts’ Weston Baken returned the opening kickoff to start the second half for a touchdown and a 6-all game.
Montezuma-Cortez scored late in the fourth quarter, then held on to beat the Colts.
Durango went 0-3 last weekend around its YAFL slate: The fifth-grade Durango Patriots (8-2) lost 13-0 to the undefeated Farmington Coyotes; the sixth-grade Durango 49ers (6-4) lost 28-6 to the Aztec Lobos.
