City seeks young artists for public display
The city of Durango’s Public Art Commission invites all youth artists currently enrolled in 9th through 12th grades to submit an application to the Youth Art on Loan program for installation at Durango Botanical Society’s first phase project at Durango Public Library.
The Art Commission is seeking a piece of art to be displayed for a two-year period in a garden that the Botanical Society has planted along the Animas River Trail behind the library.
The first-place artist (or group of artists) will receive an $850 honorarium and an opportunity for sale of the work while on display. Three finalists will receive a stipend of $50 toward the construction of maquettes of their concept for a public open house and final presentation to the Public Art Commission. All three final projects will receive public recognition.
More details, including artwork guidelines and application instructions, are available at www.DurangoPublicArt.com. Proposals will be accepted until close of business Jan. 25.
