City, county extend development agreement

Durango City Council on Tuesday voted to extend its intergovernmental development agreement with La Plata County through 2013 after the county decided it did not have enough time to come up with an alternative policy by the end of 2012.

After the vote, Mayor Doug Lyon praised the county for reversing course on the intergovernmental agreement, which allows the two governments to cooperate on development standards for new projects just outside the city limits, such as Ewing Mesa, east of Colorado Highway 3, Grandview and La Posta Road, next to the Animas Air Park.

It is smart policy, Lyon said. I appreciate their efforts.
