Durango resident Hudson Whitney Wagenseller died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at his home. He was three weeks shy of his 60th birthday.
Known as Whitney, he was born to Sherman and Kathleen Strong Wagenseller on Dec. 28, 1952, in Los Angeles. He graduated from Santa Monica High School in California.
Mr. Wagenseller moved to Durango in the 1970s and attended Fort Lewis College for a couple of years. In the late 1970s, he married Lori Zott in Lakewood. The couple had three children together before the marriage ended in divorce.
Mr. Wagenseller worked as a carpenter and owned Tanah-Brooke Construction. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking.
“He was a remarkably spiritual person, unquestionably connected with Mother Nature, art, and, most importantly his three kids,” his children said. “He was truly the most incredible human being who connected with so many people near and far.”
