Durango resident Dawn Randi Mayberry died on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, of uterine cancer. She was 50.
Ms. Mayberry was born to Hartley and Diana Naas on April 10, 1962, in Scottsdale, Ariz. She grew up in Concord, Calif., where she met her husband, Jack Mayberry, while attending Concord High School.
They married in 1981 and had six children together.
She attended college at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, Calif.
Ms. Mayberry opened Mayberry Glass with her husband in Concord in 1984 and spent several years assisting in running the business.
The couple and their four youngest children moved to Durango in 2006 where she worked at the Leland House and Rochester Hotel, serving breakfast to guests. She also worked at Sunshine Gardens West, where she took care of others.
“It was her dream to own enough land with her family on which they could have horses and other animals,” her family said. “She had an incredibly caring heart and loved caring for animals and children.”
Her hobbies included baking, reading, gardening and crafting.
“Heaven has just become a better place,” her husband, Jack, said.
Ms. Mayberry is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jack, of Durango; daughters Jasmine Mayberry, Shannin Mayberry, and sons, Karlin Mayberry, Reubin Mayberry and Quentin Mayberry all of Durango, and Dustin Mayberry, of Brentwood, Calif.; sister, Deborah Naas, of Texas; brother, Davis Naas, of Calif.; her parents Hartley and Diana Naas of California; and one grandchild.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date for friends and family.
