Durango man killed in accident identified

The Colorado State Patrol on Tuesday released the names of two people involved in a car accident Monday morning on Wildcat Canyon Road (County Road 141) that left one Durango man dead and a Farmington woman seriously injured.

CSP Sgt. Mike Baker said the man was 82-year-old Rodney Ekberg, who had not been wearing a seat belt and died on impact.

He said the woman was 59-year-old Nancy Homler, who was wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries. Homler was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center and was listed in fair condition Tuesday with unspecified injuries.

The accident took place just south of the entrance to Rafter J subdivision.

On Monday, CSP Trooper Nate Reid told The Durango Herald that the crash occurred when Homler, who was driving a 1997 blue Ford Explorer southbound, veered into the opposite lane while negotiating a curve, causing her to crash into the northbound 2007 Mitsubishi that Ekberg was driving.

Reid said the crash didnít appear to have been caused by alcohol, drugs or adverse weather conditions.
