Nanalee Powell Winegar, the sister of Durango resident Pat Englehart, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in Cortez. She had just turned 96.

Known as “Nancy,” she was born to Ernest and Lollabelle Powell on Dec. 8, 1916, in Odessa, Mo.

In 1933, she married Walter W. Winegar in Kansas City, Mo. They moved to Colorado in 1936 along with her parents and sisters.

Mrs. Winegar worked in Cortez at Style Center Clothing Store, Empire Electric Association and the gas company from 1948 to 1977.

From 1980 to 2007, she lived in the Coolidge, Ariz. area. Since 2007, she had lived at the Madison House in Cortez.

She enjoyed keeping journals and researching her family’s genealogy.

Mrs. Winegar was preceded in death by her husband of almost 75 years, Walter Winegar; and daughter, Kay Bush, in 2011.

She is survived by her son, James Winegar of Glen Rose, Texas; sisters Pat Englehart of Durango, and Martha Dyer and Marian West, both of Cortez; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 1, 2013, at Madison House, 120 S. Madison St., in Cortez.
