Adelina Pacheco died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Four Corners Health Care Center in Durango. She was 87.
Mrs. Pacheco was born May 28, 1925, in Lumberton, N.M., the daughter of Abelino and Amalia Gallegos. Mrs. Pacheco was born with cerebral palsy and spent her early years in Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind in Colorado Springs. Mrs. Pacheco then grew up in Arboles, where she met her husband, Manuel Pacheco. They were married in 1953 in Pagosa Springs and were together until Mr. Pacheco’s death in 1996.
Her family said they fondly recall that in her later years, Mrs. Pacheco was an excellent seamstress and made many wedding and prom dresses. She was very talented at arts and crafts and did many items for friends and family, they said. Her daughter, Patti Griego, said she recalls many smiling faces from people her mother touched with her creations.
The Pacheco family expressed their thanks to PASCO/SW Inc., Four Corners Health Care Center, Ignacio Senior Center and Southern Ute Community Action Programs Inc. for their love and help caring for Mrs. Pacheco.
Mrs. Pacheco was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Pacheco; her daughter, Loretta Pacheco; and her grandson Michael Hartley.
She is survived by a son, Michael Pacheco of Ignacio; a daughter, Patti Griego of Farmington; two grandsons; great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2012, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Ignacio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, also at St. Ignatius. The Rev. Douglas Hunt will officiate. Burial will be at Hilltop Cemetery in Pagosa Springs.
