Former Durango resident Josephine Crook Feinauer died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in Olathe. She was 94.

The fifth of 10 children, Mrs. Feinauer was born to Colorado pioneers Jacob and Annetta Scherrer on Feb. 6, 1918, in Burlington. She lived in a mud house as a child.

In August 1939, she married John H. Crook in Wyoming. He preceded her in death.Mrs. Feinauer earned her registered nurse degree in Denver. From the early 1960s to the late 1970s, she was the head of nursing at Community Hospital.

In December 1973, she married Richard Feinauer in Salt Lake City.

After leaving Community Hospital, she moved to Glenwood Springs and purchased a small gift shop called The Answer Shop.

Mrs. Feinauer was also preceded in death by her second husband of 28 years, Richard Feinauer, in 2001; and son John O. Crook in 2010.

She is survived by her daughter, Joni Beed, of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; son, James Crook of Crawford; stepdaughter, Brenda Pease of Salt Lake City; brother, Fred Scherrer of Denver; sister, Helen Canonico of Texas; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; more than 100 nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members.

A service was held Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Paonia.
