The Ignacio High School girls basketball team opened the San Juan Basin League season with a 55-48 win Tuesday night at Dolores.
“Overall, it was a well-played game,” Ignacio head coach Justa Whitt said. “We had a steady lead of 5-8 points in the fourth quarter. And we did a good job of slowing down, running the offense and getting good shots.”
Mariah Vigil and Michelle Simmons led the balanced Bobcats with double-doubles.
Vigil had 13 points and 11 rebounds; Simmons finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Sky Cotton scored 12, and Valerie Armstrong added 10 for the Bobcats, 4-2 overall and 1-0 in league.
Dolores dropped to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in conference.
“We were looking for this win,” Whitt said. “It’s our first league game, and it’s important because we only see the other league teams once this year.”
The Bobcats will head to the Kirtland Central Tournament where they will play Shiprock at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
