Danger lurks in the shadows as Sandra Johnson from Mancos discovered after sliding on ice on U.S. Highway 160 on Wednesday afternoon. Johnson was westbound, just west Lightner Creek Road (County Road 207), when she hit ice. She said she was traveling below the speed limit, but spun twice before going off the south side of the highway, clipping a sign for Lightner Creek Road. She was not injured. The Colorado State Patrol took several calls from motorists asking for sand for that section of the highway, which is in afternoon shade. Enlarge photo
