Lifelong Cortez resident Aurta Lynette Lichliter died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, in Farmington. She was 77.
Known as “Artie,” she was born to John Arthur “Art” and Reva Leta (Armstrong) Lichliter on May 20, 1935, in Cortez.
Ms. Lichliter attended Mildred School and graduated from Montezuma-Cortez High School in 1953.
She worked in the propane gas business all of her working career.
One of her greatest pleasures in life was playing fast-pitch softball. She was the pitcher on a team and played until she was 49. Ms. Lichliter was able to see a lot of the country by playing in softball tournaments.
“She was a treasured sister and favorite aunt,” her family said.
Ms. Lichliter is survived by her brothers Ron Lichliter and Troy Lichliter, both of Durango, and John Lichliter of Farmington; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Ertel Memorial Chapel, 42 N. Market St. in Cortez. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, also at Ertel. Burial will take place at Cortez Cemetery.
