One night after a big win over Shiprock, the Ignacio Bobcats ran right into Piedra Vista.
Playing in the annual Rumble in the Jungle Tournament in Aztec, the Ignaci boys dropped a 55-38 decision to Piedra Vista on Friday night.
“We didn’t play well. We just didn’t play well,” Ignacio head coach Chris Valdez said.
“It seemed like we didn’t have any energy. The kids played hard, but we had eight or 10 shots that just rimmed out. And then it kind of snowballed,” Valdez said.
Ignacio pulled within four points at the start of the fourth quarter after Piedra Vista had led by 22.
But Piedra Vista answered the Ignacio run with a pair of baskets.
“We could never make it up,” Valdez said.
Clayton Jefferson led the Bobcats with 10 points. Justin Carver added eight points.
Adison Jones and Kelton Richmond scored seven each for the Bobcats (6-2 overall). The Ignacio boys are ranked No. 6 in Class 2A this week by The Denver Post.
“Piedra Vista played well. They pressured us and did a good job,” Valdez said.
The Bobcats will play either Aztec or Bloomfield in today’s final round.
