Roadrunners clip ’Hawks at the end

FLC’s six-game win streak snapped

It took some late heroics by a good team on the road, but the six-game winning streak of the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team is no more.

Cassie Lambrecht’s layup with about a minute to go put Metro State up, and the Roadrunners hit free throws down the stretch to edge FLC 63-60 on Saturday.

“A couple of tough breaks, but we were right there hand-in-hand with them,” FLC head coach Jason Flores said.

A pair of Ashley Kuchar 3s put FLC (8-7, 7-4 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) up 58-57, but Lambrecht hit a layup to put Metro (11-5, 9-2 RMAC) in the lead, then the Roadrunners held on via the foul line and good defense.

Kuchar had 17 to lead FLC, and Erika Richards had 13.

Lambrecht and Amy Nelson had 12 each for Metro State, while Kristin Valencia had 10 and 15 rebounds.

“They’re hurting after the game, and that’s a great sign,” Flores said of his team. “They feel like they’re a good team now, and we are, and we’ve just got to keep putting it together.”
