Ignacio boys unbeaten in league

The Ignacio High School boys basketball team extended its record to 3-0 in the San Juan Basin League with a 79-14 victory over Nucla on Friday night.

The balanced Bobcats finished with three players in double figures. Every Bobcat scored in the game.

“We played pretty well. Everybody played, and everybody scored,” Ignacio head coach Chris Valdez said.

He said the Bobcats focused on defense, jumping out to a 20-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. They led 40-4 at halftime.

Kelton Richmond scored 14 points to lead all scorers.

Nick Herrera added 11 points off the bench.

Justin Carver added nine, Wyatt Hayes eight, Adison Jones seven, Anthony Manzanares six and Bo Ward five for the Bobcats, 10-3 overall.

The Ignacio boys are ranked No. 7 in Class 2A by The Denver Post.

The Nucla boys fell to 1-10 overall, 0-6 in league

Ignacio will play at Ouray today in another San Juan Basin League game.
