IHS girls put stop to Nucla

Balanced offense for Bobcats

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team overcame early foul trouble in a 68-37 victory over Nucla on Friday night.

“We played great. I couldn’t ask for more,” Ignacio head coach Justa Whitt said after the Bobcats improved to 3-1 in the San Juan Basin League, 7-7 overall.

“It was a little sketchy with fouls in the second quarter. In fact, I had to pull out Michelle (Simmons) and Cloe (Seibel) in the second quarter because they had three fouls each,” Whitt said.

The rest of the Bobcats stepped up in their absence, she said.

Mariah Vigil led three Bobcats in double figures with 14 points. She also had seven rebounds.

Valerie Armstrong added 12 points. Sky Cotton scored 11, and Jordan Cuthair added a season-high nine points.

The Bobcats will hit the road for a San Juan Basin League game at Ouray today.
