Durango resident Basilio Romero died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, in Durango. He was 80.
Mr. Romero, one of four children born to Faustine and Mary Romero, was born April 6, 1932, in Ignacio.
On Dec. 27, 1950, he married Louise Lujan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango.
Mr. Romero retired from Durango School District 9-R after 27 years as a carpenter. He was a hard worker, and enjoyed working with his hands, his family said.
An avid Broncos fan, he really loved all sports, his family said. Mr. Romero was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He and his wife loved to travel and went on many family road trips together.
“He was a great man who would help anyone at a moment’s notice,” his family said.
Mr. Romero is survived by his wife of 62 years, Louise Romero of Durango; sons James Romero, Ted Romero and Mark Romero, all of Durango; daughter, Anna Marie Monaghan, of Norristown, Pa.; brother, Walter Romero of Ignacio; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today, Feb. 5, 2013, at Hood Mortuary Chapel, 1261 East Third Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East Fifth Ave. The Rev. Joseph Gallegos will be the celebrant. Burial will occur at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango.
