Unitarian Fellowship awards scholarships

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Durango Social Justice Community Fund awarded about $10,0000 in post-secondary scholarships to two GED graduates of the Durango Adult Education Center at their graduation ceremony Jan. 25.

The initial scholarships will cover tuition and books for their first year of study. The goal of the scholarship program is to support successful students throughout their post-GED academic careers. The recipients are Sophia Tarpley-Romero and LaTonia Nez. Tarpley-Romero’s goal is to be a registered nurse and eventually, a Flight for Life nurse. Nez plans to be a dental assistant.

Animas Valley announces Huskies

Animas Valley Elementary School announces that these students were named Huskies of the week for showing enthusiasm: Emany Fry, Andy Rivera, Ian Daly and Jack Schuba.
