IHS handles Mancos ‘pretty handily’

Herald Staff Report

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team had twice as many steals as Mancos had points.

The Bobcats nabbed 32 steals off of the Bluejays to win the San Juan Basin League game “pretty handily” – 56-16 on Saturday night at IHS.

“Everybody got to play and just was a good day,” IHS head coach Justa Whitt said.

Sky Cotton led the Bobcats with nine steals. Michelle Simmons grabbed eight and Cloe Seibel five.

“Our guard front was working (Saturday night),” Whitt said.

The turnovers translated into points for plenty of Bobcats.

Seibel led all scorers with 15 points, and Cotton added 10. Jordan Cuthair and Gabs Garcia each scored seven, and Simmons had six.

“Overall we just had a good game,” Whitt said.

The Bobcats (10-7, 5-1 SJBL) will play another league game at 5 p.m. Saturday at Telluride.

IHS will host Norwood in its regular-season finale Feb. 23.

Whitt said Telluride barely has nicked the Bobcats the last couple of years.

“So that’s kind of on my list for a good win up there,” Whitt said.

“I’m going to have them pumped up.”
