Former Durango resident Maureen Kay (Millikan) O’Donoghue died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. “As heartbreaking as it was, she chose the timing of her departure from this life,” her family said. She was 51.
Known as “Mo,” she was born to Maurice and Joyce Millikan on Aug. 17, 1961, in Missoula, Mont. She graduated from Sentinel High School in 1980.
After high school, Mrs. O’Donoghue attended some college before entering the Air Force, where she met her future husband, Greg O’Donoghue. The couple married Sept. 30, 1983.
“Greg tragically died in a motorcycle accident near Durango on July 25, 1988,” her family said. “Greg was truly Maureen’s partner in life, and she never truly recovered from losing him.”
Mrs. O’Donoghue lived in many different places and gathered numerous memories and friends along the way, her family said. She lived in Durango for several years, and it remained one of her favorite places.
“Maureen loved the outdoors and animals,” her family said.
Mrs. O’Donoghue was preceded in death by her husband of five years, Greg O’Donoghue.
She is survived by her father, Maurice Millikan, of Bonner, Mont.; brother, Donald Millikan, of Liberty Lake, Wash.; sisters Lynda Bruskotter of Bonner and Brenda Millikan of Spokane, Wash.; six nieces and nephews; and numerous extended family members.
As a memoriam her family asks that friends think of Mrs. O’Donoghue during their next adventure or support their local animal shelter.
