Slow to spark, IHS girls ‘catch fire’

Slow (starting) and steady beats the Demons.

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team (13-7, 9-1 SJBL) got hot after a jittery start to beat Ridgway 56-46 in a San Juan Basin League Tournament semifinal Friday in Cortez.

“It took a while to catch fire, but once we did, we got a lead and held it,” IHS head coach Justa Whitt said.

Michelle Simmons led the Bobcats with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Valerie Armstrong scored 11 points.

Ignacio will play Telluride in the SJBL championship game at 1 p.m. today in Cortez.
