Longtime Durango resident Charles “Chuck” Ogston died at home Friday, March 22, 2013, of natural causes. He was 96.
Mr. Ogston was born March 1, 1917, in Boise City, Okla., to Charles and Gwen Ogston. He attended and graduated from school in Boise City.
He married his wife, Thelma, in 1987 in a small ceremony in Moab, Utah.
Mr. Ogston was known for the Everything Store locations in Durango and Farmington. He also managed several furniture stores in Alaska, California, Arizona and Colorado.
After he retired, Mr. Ogston, who had a great sense of humor, enjoyed sitting on the front porch waving at people as they passed by, his family said.
The family said that Mr. Ogston was very witty and that the family he married into really enjoyed him. He will be greatly missed, the family said.
Mr. and Mrs. Ogston faithfully attended The River Church in Durango.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma of Durango; brother Don Ogston of California; son Chuck Ogston of Oklahoma, daughter Linda LaFontaine of Washington; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 29, at The River Church, 860 Plymouth Drive.
