Dolores graduate completes training

Army National Guard Pvt. Rachel K. Beverlin has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Beverlin is the daughter of Gail and Steve Beverlin of Mancos. She is a 2012 graduate of Dolores High School.

Kenneth Decker Jr. receives promotion

Kenneth L. Decker Jr. has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force.

Decker is a program manager for the global aircrew strategic network terminal. He is assigned to the 66th Air Base Wing at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. The new lieutenant colonel has served in the military for 14 years.

He is the son of Kenneth and Gloria Decker of Cortez. Decker graduated in 1991 from Mancos High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1998 from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
