Durango resident Mary Trina Armijo died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in Durango. She was 92.

Mrs. Armijo was born to Julio and Lorenza Sanchez on Aug. 29, 1920, in Gulnare in Southeast Colorado. She grew up in Trinidad.

As a young adult, she lived in Billings, Mont.

She married Fermin Mascarena in Montana. After the couple had 12 children together, he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Armijo was a homemaker, who later married Melix Armijo in Montana. The couple had a set of twins together before Mr. Armijo died.

Mrs. Armijo met the man her family called “the love of her life,” Louis J. Gonzales, in Montana. They moved to Durango in 1973 and continued to raise their family together.

Mrs. Armijo enjoyed dancing and Spanish music.

Mrs. Armijo was preceded in death by her husband and companion of 38 years, Louis J. Gonzales; and children Leo Mascarena and Sylvester Mascarena.

She is survived by her children Sherrie Armijo of Kirtland, N.M., Annie Atencio of Grand Junction, Mary Medina and Dorothy Jabalera, both of Denver, and Fermin Mascarena, Gloria Larson, Floyd Mascarena, Helen Miller, Jesse Mascarena, Theresa Mydland and Raymond Mascarena, all of Billings; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Hood Mortuary, 1261 East Third Ave., in Durango. A funeral service will be held afterward at 1 p.m., also at Hood. After the funeral, burial will occur at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield.
