Doctors who take Medicare deserve respect

Having recently read Robert Bricca’s letter to the editor (Herald, Aug. 25), he seems to have missed the point. Most towns have private primary care doctors who do accept Medicare without passing it off on a hospital. And, no, they haven’t been “forced to close their doors” because of “current Medicare reimbursement rates.”

However, they do seem to believe more completely in patient welfare than those who refuse to provide care that is less profitable. Consequently, they deserve more of our respect. God bless them.

By the way, medical care in the United States now costs 2½ times the average of 33 developed nations and is significantly injuring the economy.

Isn’t that enough for the doctors, insurers and lawyers?
