Common mallow

Common mallow, an edible weed growing at Turtle Lake Refuge on Third Avenue.

Properties: High in vitamins, good for drawing out congestion.

Uses: The whole plant is edible. Because the leaves are slightly gelatinous like okra, they can be used as a thickener for soups or stews or even used in lotion. They also can be dried or blended and used for tea or in smoothies and juice.
