Demons call it a winning streak

The Durango High School girls lacrosse team has outscored its last two opponents by a combined score of 33-5, albeit against lesser competition.

The DHS Demons won their second consecutive game Friday, their first two wins of the season. DHS (2-7, 2-4 Mountain League) dismantled Eagle Valley (1-7, 1-6 ML) 17-3 on Friday afternoon in Gypsum.

“This was the best game we’ve played in terms of controlling our own play. Finally, in the ninth game of the season, we made consistently good and clean passes,” DHS head coach Jenni Darlow said. “That made all the difference.”

Angela Grogan scored six goals and had one assist in the game. Tymbree Hawkins had three goals and seven assists, including four assists on Grogan’s goals.

The Demons had nine assists on their 17 goals.

Payton Randle, Megan Robinson and Jessie Sutherlin all scored two goals in the game, and Sutherlin added one assist. Jessica Looman scored one goal, as did Alyssa Swan.

Megan Pope played goaltender in the first half. She allowed one goal and didn’t make a save. Kylee Shilakis was in net in the second half, and she made one save and allowed two goals.
