Waters has qualities needed for LPEA board

I encourage La Plata Electric Association members to take time to vote in the upcoming board election. While the LPEA board doesn’t seem like a big election to most people, there is no doubt that electricity is important.

This election has an important race in District 3 representing the city of Durango. Bill Waters is seeking to unseat incumbent Jeff Berman.

The LPEA board should consist of people who represent the members’ interests. A board member should promote the business in which they direct. Their job is not to publicly criticize shortfalls of the company. The job is finding shortfalls and then identifying ways to improve those areas where the member’s expectations are not being met.

Board members shouldn’t only understand business but have a background that proves that they understand it. Ability to project what it takes to sustain a business, develop a plan and stick to that plan is what it takes to ensure long-term sustainability. When exploring new ideas it is important for board members to be able to look at the pros and cons in order to make sure that it benefits the members as well as the company.

A person who represents members should not be someone who makes big promises until they are sure they can be delivered.

Bill Waters has these qualities with a successful background to prove it. His historical perspective is living in and working in this community for several decades.

I urge members to take time to vote because the person who represents you is important. Ballots come out in May.

If you research the candidate’s backgrounds, dig a little into the things listed on their résumé in order to determine if they are in fact someone who possesses the qualities I have listed above as well as any expectations you might have of a candidate that will be representing you and your energy needs.
