Man nabbed after Bodo shooting

Woman goes to Mercy, suspect jailed
Dupree

Authorities have a man in custody in the La Plata County jail after he was arrested for shooting his girlfriend at a hotel in Bodo Industrial Park just before 7 p.m. Saturday.

Durango Police Department officers and members of the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office responded to Homewood Suites, 15 Girard St., in Bodo Park after Robin Armstrong, 34, of Durango called 911 saying she had been shot in the stomach, said Lt. Ray Shupe, public information officer with the Durango Police Department, on Sunday.

“LPCSO assisted and actually arrived on scene shortly before we did, and they contacted Armstrong,” Shupe said.

He said Armstrong had been shot in her lower abdomen, near her navel. On Sunday afternoon, she was listed in fair condition at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

“Apparently, she was arguing with her boyfriend, and he had left the scene before deputies arrived,” Shupe said.

Armstrong made a statement to authorities that she had been shot by Jeremy Dupree, 39, of Durango, her boyfriend of two years.

The two checked in to the Homewood Suites around 4 p.m. Saturday, and other guests heard them arguing before the shooting.

Shupe said shortly after Armstrong was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center, Dupree returned to the scene.

“Mr. Dupree returned and saw officers at the hotel and fled again,” Shupe said. “ He was subsequently arrested in the parking lot of Wagner Equipment, 112 Turner Drive.

The gun used was a .44 caliber revolver, which Durango Police Department detectives recovered Sunday. Mr. Dupree was booked into La Plata County jail after being arrested for domestic violence and attempted murder in the first degree, a class 2 felony, Shupe said. He was being held without bond Sunday.

“Both of them were intoxicated at the time of the shooting,” Shupe said. “Ms. Armstrong went into surgery right away, so investigators didn’t have a chance to interview with her.”
