Mark Redwine, the father of teenager Dylan Redwine, who was missing for nearly eight months before his remains were found, was hospitalized early Saturday morning in Denver, according to Denver police.

Sonny Jackson, Denver police spokesman, said a female who was with Mark Redwine called 911 about 2 a.m. Saturday to request a welfare check. Jackson said police and an ambulance responded to where Redwine was at Ellsworth Avenue and Fox Street.

He then was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, 9News in Denver reported.

Jackson said Saturday afternoon he was uncertain if Mark Redwine was still hospitalized.

Jackson said Redwine was not arrested because there was not criminal activity.

“It was only a welfare check,” he said.

For reasons unclear, Redwine contacted 9News investigative reporter Melissa Blasius about the incident. Blasius has interviewed him several times in the past regarding the investigation of his missing son.

Attempts to reach Redwine on Saturday were unsuccessful.

La Plata County Sheriff Duke Schirard said Saturday two sheriff’s investigators were dispatched to Denver in an effort to interview Redwine.

“We’re hopeful we can gain some information from this incident,” Schirard said. “This open case is one of our number one priorities. Any leads or potential leads, we’re going to respond.”

Dylan was reported missing Nov. 19, 2012, by his mother, who lives in the Colorado Springs area. He was staying with his father, who lives about three miles north of Vallecito Reservoir, as part of a court-ordered visitation during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Mark Redwine said after a morning of running errands, he returned home, and his son was gone.

The disappearance prompted a months-long search for the teenager, who was caught in the middle of an acrimonious battle between his father and his mother, Elaine Redwine. Police searched Mark Redwine’s house a few times but turned up no clues about Dylan’s disappearance. Mark Redwine has never been arrested, and he has not been named a suspect in the case.

Dylan’s remains were found in late June 2013 during a five-day search on Middle Mountain, on the northwest end of Vallecito Reservoir. Law-enforcement officials combed a 12-mile stretch of Middle Mountain Road looking for clues about his disappearance.

Denise Hess, a close friend of Elaine Redwine who played a major role in organizing volunteer efforts in trying to find the missing boy, said she wasn’t sure why Redwine would alert the news media regarding the situation in Denver.

“I don’t understand his thinking behind that,” she said. “I do have my own opinions. I think it was a stupid attempt for attention.”
