Historic tour offered Saturday in Bayfield

The public is invited to participate in a La Plata County Historic Driving Tour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. All the tour sites are in or near Bayfield. Participants may stop at any or all of them at the designated times.

The event is sponsored by the La Plata County Historic Preservation Review Commission to celebrate May as historic preservation month. All the tour stops are with permission of the owners.

Tour sites include:

10 a.m. at the Pine River Heritage Society Museum, 11 W. Mill St.

11 a.m. at the Columbine Ranger Station, 367 Pearl St.

11:30 a.m. at the historic rural school houses at 660 S. East St., just south of the old community gym.

Noon at the former Robbins Hospital, 8800 County Road 521 (Buck Highway).

1 p.m. at the Bayfield Cemetery, 405 County Road 501.

1:30 p.m. at the Gem Village Rock Club house, the log building on the south side of Highway 160.

Participants also are invited to take the downtown Bayfield walking tour. Printed guides are available at the Heritage Society Museum and at Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway.
