Golfers, get ready to tee off for tips

Tourney raises money for Crimestoppers

The minutes are ticking down to the tee off for the CrimeStoppers Golf Tournament, the organization’s only fundraiser for money to pay tipsters who provide information about crimes in the area.

The four-man scramble will kick off with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Saturday at the Hillcrest Golf Club.

“We just had another team drop out,” Mike Brown said this afternoon, “so now we only have 19 teams.”

The tournament can accommodate 26 teams, so there is room for more.

The cost is $400 per team or $100 per person and includes lunch.

If you’re not a golfer, a $100 tax-deductible donation will make you or your business a tee-box sponsor. Checks should be mailed to La Plata CrimeStoppers, P.O. Box 1382, Durango, CO 81302.

Contact Brown at 749-4951 for team information, to register and to let them know if you’re sponsoring a tee-box.

While the National Weather Service is forecasting a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, the odds are good most of the day will be perfect for a round of golf.
