Eva, the $5,750 puppy

Eva

Durango is a dog’s town.

When little puppy Eva and her five siblings were snatched from the jaws of doom in Chinle, Arizona, by puppy lover Lisa Parker of Lisa Parker’s Puppies, she was diagnosed with a bad heart, and then people really opened up their hearts – and their pocketbooks.

A little bit of accidental genius from local PR guru Beth Lamberson helped: Her shotgun email accidentally went out to nearly everyone she ever sent an email to, and combined with gaining speed in local media, she raised $5,750 in a matter of days.

“I’ve been fundraising for 28 years, and this one blew me away,” she said.

Lamberson said the average donation was $72, but there were three $500 and one anonymous $1,000 whoppers.

Eva is set for surgery at Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
