The Week in Music: Fred Schneider, a Journey cover, more

If this week’s new music is any indication, it’s gonna be one glorious summer. I hope you find your new favorite song or artist here; you’ll notice they’re all on the upbeat side, because who wants to be mope in June?

In no particular order, these go to 11:

1. Bob Mould’s video for “I Don’t Know You Anymore;http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/65f616aff7/bob-mould-i-don-t-know-you-anymore.” Mould has gotten a lot of attention for his new record, and it’s well-deserved. The Decemberists Colin Meloy makes the obligatory celebrity cameo in this funny clip.

2. White Sea’s “Future Husbands Past Lives.” White Sea, aka Morgan Kibby, has captured my heart with this track that recalls Deniece Williams, Donna Summer and other cheerful divas that made us move.

3. Frontload’s;https://www.facebook.com/frontloadmusic “Dr. Who.” While you’re waiting for the 12th Doctor, turn up this new thumpin’ club track inspired by the show. Right now it’s available on Beatport;http://www.beatport.com/release/dr-who/1307549 ; it’ll be on iTunes June 17.

4. The Superions “Konnichiwa” It’s just not summer without a little Fred Schneider! The track comes from his band’s;http://thesuperions.com/ upcoming record, and it features Fred saying hello in 12 different languages.

5. The Luxxury edit;https://soundcloud.com/luxxury/duran-duran-girls-on-film-luxxury-edit of Duran Duran’s “Girls on Film.” Can you tell I’ve been in a dance-y mood all week? Throw this on and take off your pants. Others will join you, and if they don’t, they’re lame.

6. One Hit Wondering. This relatively new podcast looks back on some of our favorite one-hit wonders (mostly from the ‘80s). Guests offer context and insight related to Talk Talk, Tom Tom Club , Divinyls and more acts worth reexamining.

7. DJ Earworm’s “CPR Mashup;https://soundcloud.com/djearworm/dj-earworm-hands-only-cpr-mashup.” This track, put together for the American Heart Association, mixes popular tunes like Salt N Pepa’s “Push It” and could actually save lives; at 100 beats per minute, it’s the speed you need to perform hands-only CPR.

8. Crystal Stilts “Delirium Tremendous.” I’m a longtime fan of these guys (their 2008 record, “Alight of Night,” is close to perfect), and this week I’ve been grooving to the new single. If Ian Curtis were still alive he might be making music like this ...

9. Shorts “Berlin 1971.” This Brooklyn, N.Y., band delivers a dose of bright, ‘60s-influenced pop. After you hear it, dust off your favorite Byrds record and pour yourself an Arnold Palmer.

10. Tiny Victories “Systems.” Man, I love that synths are back in such a big way. They really come together with the vocals on this song, which I played on repeat the other day while cleaning my desk.

11. A Million Billion Dying Suns’ cover of Journey’s “Daydream.” Yes, I’m putting a Journey cover on my best-of list this week. But honestly, “Daydream” isn’t a song I was familiar with; it’s not overplayed like so many of Journey’s other tracks, but it’s quite worthy of multiple listens.
