Cycling for Make- A-Wish

Chris Harley Rupp, right, a speedskater and firefighter from Madison, Wis., who says he doesn’t consider himself a cyclist, is currently on a 6,500-mile bicycle trek from Seattle to Miami, raising money for Make-A-Wish. Rupp, 26, is cycling without a support vehicle, spending nights in fire stations. He spent Thursday night at Station 2, courtesy of the Durango Fire Protection District, before heading to Pagosa Springs. Visit www.RideForWishes.us for information on how to help. Christopher Verdinez, 12, who was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia when he was 2 and was a Make-A-Wish kid himself, met with Rupp on Thursday afternoon at the Durango Welcome Center. Verdinez is the son of Celia Verdinez and Danny Garcia of Pagosa Springs.
