Robbery, burglary decline in Colorado

Robbery in Colorado fell 6 percent, and burglary fell 3.5 percent in 2013, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation statistics released Tuesday.

The 2013 Crime in Colorado report includes statewide crime statistics reported by 249 law enforcement agencies in Colorado.

Homicides jumped 7.5 percent to 172 in 2013. Larceny grew 2.3 percent, and motor vehicle theft increased 3.8 percent.

Rape showed a 41.3 percent increase, but the agency said the dramatic growth was because of the additions of forcible sodomy and sexual assault with an object to the Bureau’s definition of rape. The change was not due to increased crime, the Bureau said.

The report found an overall 2.1 percent increase in violent crimes and a 1.3 percent increase in property crimes. The crime rate increased 0.1 percent per 100,000 population.
