How are the crash victims doing?

Two men recovering from injuries

Two Durangoans were seriously injured in crashes this week.

Emilio Hernandez-Martinez, 26, was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident on Molas Pass on Sunday night. He continued to be in critical condition Thursday afternoon according to Loralee Sturm, a spokeswoman for St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, where he was airlifted.

In an accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 550 and Trimble Lane (County Road 252) that occurred at about 5 p.m. Wednesday, Durango resident Robert Mackie was transported to Mercy Regional Medical Center. He was treated and released.

The accident occurred in the right-hand turn lane on the northbound side. Mackie, who was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, was stopped behind an Acura waiting for the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train to pass through the intersection when he was hit from behind by a 2011 Kia driven by Chelsea Serzen, 23, according to Capt. Adrian Driscoll of the Colorado State Patrol.

Driscoll said all his troopers will be out on area roads during the holiday weekend.
