The key to golfing in the summer heat is hydration

Even with the occasional monsoonal-type hit-and-miss rains, we remain in a hot-weather pattern in the southwest corner of the state.

Forecasters said a high pressure system was centered in the Four Corners recently, which created an upsurge of flow from the south.

Goody!

It still is HOT, and this brings me to the point of staying hydrated, especially during rounds of golf. If you did not realize this, that is why there are so many zippered pouches on your golf bag or cup holders within your reach in a golf cart. Keep something liquid in these convenient locations, preferably water or enhanced water products to fight dehydration.

I take it from experience, it is no fun getting rehydrated with that wonderful pouchy-hanging-on-a-hook solution because of my own stupidity. It makes sense to spend a couple of cents to take care of your body.

Tournament play will continue this weekend with the Member/Member event Saturday and Sunday at Dalton Ranch Golf Club. The field is limited to the first 100 participants. I have been told that a few more women are needed to enter this event to make a women’s flight; the deadline to enter is Thursday.

Dalton Ranch also will be the site of the annual United Way of Southwest Colorado tournament July 18.
