Fallen tree caused power outage

A wind-toppled tree that struck a power line was the reason that 208 La Plata Electric Association customers were left without electricity Tuesday afternoon.

Storm cells moving through the wooded, mountainous area in the Cascade Creek and Mills Creek neighborhoods brought lightning and high wind, LPEA spokeswoman Indiana Reed said Wednesday.

The outage was reported at 3:10 p.m. All but 20 customers had power back at 3:55 p.m., Reed said. The remainder got power at 4:40 p.m.

An LPEA crew had to walk the line to find the source of the outage, Reed said.

Stormy weather forecast for the coming week could bring new problems, Reed said.
