Tennis lessons offered this summer

The city of Durango’s Parks and Recreation Department will offer tennis classes for children and adults beginning Monday through July 31, according to a news release issued by the city. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Participants can sign up online at www.durangogov.org or at the Durango Community Recreation Center.

A junior team camp for participants 13 to 18 will begins this Monday and will run Monday through Thursday for two week from 3 to 5 p.m. The fee is $160.

The under 12 program will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursday, for two weeks. The cost is $40 per session and begins its third session the week of July 21. The classes will take place at Durango High School tennis courts.

The program will use the United States Tennis Association’s Youth Tennis Teaching Model, which included smaller courts and larger balls for younger children. Mike Moriarty, second-year tennis coordinator for the city, is a USTA certified instructor and will be aiding the program.
