Hunting licenses on sale Aug. 5

This year sales include leftover, limited
Licenses for this year’s big game and fall turkey seasons go on sale Aug. 5 at licensed agents, online and by phone.

Colorado big game and turkey licenses will go on sale Aug. 5, according to a news release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

This is the first time that all big game licenses (leftover, over-the-counter with caps, unlimited over-the-counter) are for sale at the same time.

“It’s for the convenience of consumers,” said Manda Walters, an agency public information specialist, in Denver. “This way consumers don’t have to stand in line or get on the phone or online more than once.”

Licenses will be available for elk, deer, pronghorn, bear and turkey, to both residents and nonresidents, beginning at 9 a.m. on Aug. 5.

Licenses can be purchased in person at businesses that are authorized to sell them, at Parks and Wildlife offices, online at cpw.state.co.us/BuyApply/pages/hunting.aspx, or by phone at (800) 244-5613.

Parks and Wildlife recommends that you check with your preferred license purchase agent ahead of time to make sure they’re open when the sale begins and that they’re familiar with changes to big-game license sales this year.

License agents in La Plata and San Juan (Colo.) county:

Bayfield: Vallecito Resort, Lewis Mercantile, Pine River Lodge and Five Branches Camper Park.

Durango: Duranglers, Sports Authority, Parks and Wildlife office at 151 E. 16th St., both City Markets, Big 5 Sporting Goods, Needles Country Store, The San Juan Angler, Colorado Trails Ranch, Goods for the Woods, Gardenswartz Sporting Goods and Walmart.

Silverton: Outdoor World.

Visit cpw.state.co.us/buyapply/Pages/LicenseAgentsList.aspx for a complete list of license agents.

In addition to a current and valid photo ID, proof of residency and social security number, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1949, must have a hunter education card. Online verification requires input of the hunter education information located on the card and the state in which it was issued.

Leftover licenses are what remain after the draw process for big game and turkey. The number of licenses available depends upon how many licenses remain after the draws for a particular hunt code. A list of available hunt codes is slated to be published at cpw.state.co.us on July 29.

Over-the-counter with caps licenses are licenses that initially go on sale Aug. 5 but are limited in quantity, or “capped.” Unlimited over-the-counter licenses are not limited in number. Look for unlimited over-the-counter licenses and hunt codes for over-the-counter with caps licenses in the 2014 Big Game Brochure.
